Perennials
Perennial Garden The Perennial Department comprises hundreds of varieties of flowering and foliage plants for the sun and shade, including a broad assortment of Ornamental Grasses and Groundcovers. We provide our customers with the highest quality plants, basing our selections on ease of maintenance, disease and pest-resistance, size and longevity of bloom, and striking foliage or fragrance.

For 2009, we will continue to expand our selection of the hottest trends in plant material. In early Spring, look for an outstanding selection of Primrose and Perennial Tulips, along with several new Hellebore varieties, including 'Winter Queen,' 'Double Vision,' and 'Blackthorn Strain.'

We will feature again the newly-introduced line of "Rockery Plants" from Sunny Border Nurseries. These diminutive plants are perfect for gardeners seeking rugged little Perennials for stone gardens, small spaces and containers. We are excited to offer these gems to our customers, as many of them are not widely available yet.

Daisy-type flowers continue to be widely popular. We will feature additional varieties of Echinacea, Coreopsis, Gaillardia, Leucanthemum and Helenium. Look for these to arrive early to mid-summer. Three new, fully hardy Dendranthema from the 'Igloo' series in warm russet, orange and yellow tones will arrive just slightly later.

New to the Perennial area this year is Chaenorrhinum, a hardy, dwarf Snapdragon, IIiamna, a rare Hollyhock-like plant, Indigofera, a shrubby, pea-like Perennial, and Mukdenia, a choice shade garden plant with vibrant fall foliage.

We will also respond to our customers' requests for Native Perennials, and will carry Spigelia, Ratibida, Asclepias, Arisaema, and several varieties of Gentiana, among other native plants.

We will, of course, have plenty of the 2007 Perennial Plant of the Year, Nepeta 'Walker's Low,' an easy-care, extremely long-blooming variety of Catmint with soft azure blossoms. For detailed information about 'Walker's Low,' a complete list of Perennial Plants of the Year and Information about the Perennial Plant Association, please visit www.perennialplant.org.

Please note that this list is not exhaustive; we will be ordering many additional plants as they become available throughout the season.
